Housebuilding and planning under a Labour government

As part of our research on the direction of Labour policy ahead of their manifesto launch, this update covers how housebuilding policy might proceed under a Starmer government. The party seems ready to advocate planning reform and believes boosted build numbers are key to establishing sustained growth (and perhaps securing the votes of first-time buyers and many under-50s). But though they sense a public demand for change in planning, might the pressures of Westminster consensus-building and a need for quick ‘results’ tone down their ambitions?
